Life and career:
The son of artist Israel Zohar, and half-brother of Israeli singer Alma Zohar, Matan Zohar was born in London, England in 1990. He was raised by his mother, Wendy Caron Zohar, a professional violinist who, with staunch musical ethos, nurtured Matan's early love of--and prodigious inclination toward--music. From age one to eleven, Zohar and his family lived in the city of Cleveland, Ohio in the United States. It was there at age 8 where his father presented young Zohar with a guitar as a gift. He returned at age 11 to London and continued pursuing his musical interests as a drummer and bassist as a member of a jazz and rock band respectively. However, Zohar became more interested in musical acts such as Daft Punk and the Chemical Brothers, and his musical inclinations shifted to those of electronic dance music and DJing.
After 3 years living and producing music in London, his music began to gain attention and play time by some of the biggest DJs in the trance and progressive world - resulting in him being picked up by Above & Beyond's globally renowned Anjunabeats label.
Mat's releases on Anjunabeats have earned substantial critical acclaim, and his collaboration with Porter Robinson, "Easy", reached number one on Beatport. On 28 August 2013, Mat Zo announced the title and artwork for his debut album 'Damage Control' as well as a teaser track called 'Little Damage'. Damage Control was released to critical acclaim and Dancing Astronaut called it "an inspiring and timeless artistic debut". In May 2014 Zo teamed up with Kill The Noise for a tour and collaboration productions.
In April 2014, Zo announced he will be releasing his future original production as free downloads via his soundcloud page.
In addition to trance and progressive house, Mat Zo's production include a wide variety of genres from chill out to drum and bass & hip hop. His earlier drum & bass productions are under the pseudonym MRSA on Hospital Records. He also has several unreleased tracks under the MRSA moniker playable through his Myspace account.
