The second Four on Four Portal upgrade for 2019 is focused primarily on features that allow for easier management of the site.
One key administrative function that has been added is the ability to add music content (e.g. tracks) en mass either for a multitude of different albums or for a single album with multiple tracks. This feature is a huge time saver since up until now tracks had to be added one by one and this was not a sustainable approach when a large number of tracks needed to be added to the site.
In this release we've added a whole new configuration framework to control the layout of pages. This gives the administrator the ability to specify whether a page should display search features (e.g. quick search, search bar) as well as some of the more standard elements (e.g. logo, menu, footer, etc). We also intend to use this framework as a foundation for our next functional update to wrap security features around each page and be able to show or hide pages as needed depending on the user's role.
A large portion of this release also focused on ensuring that, as administrative pages were added to update content, data integrity is also maintained. For example, any time a producer, band, album, playlist, mix, genre, harmonic key or bpm record is being deleted through the UI, checks are performed to ensure that parent records cannot be deleted if child relationships tied to that parent still exist.
Lastly, a function to allow the management of defects has been introduced and is now available via the administration portion of the portal. This facilitates the documentation of defects found in testing, their tracking and their eventual resolution. This feature was introduced to improve the quality of the site as new code is introduced and that code has the possibility of breaking parts of the site or having unintended functional behaviors in the UI.
The release included four new administration reports to detect bands without albums, albums without tracks, tracks that have not been analyzed or compilations that do not have a producer.
This release also had a significant number of fixes related to presentment, especially when the site is viewed on a mobile device, as well as to fix pagination, and browser compatibility issues.
