It's Ally here with your weekly crate selection. Without knowing anything else, I listened to this track and thought for certain that it was from Knee Deep In Sound as it had that dark, unmistakably deep tribal rhythm I've heard on some of their tracks.
That was until the vocals kicked and then the melody assured me that this was instead the sentimental work of Stan Kolev. Stan releases this track called Adinkra under the Outta Limits label. This track was played on the 890th episode of A State of Trance.
For those of you wondering on the meaning of the title, I looked it up.
Adinkra are visual symbols that represent concepts, proverbs, and aphorisms. They originated from the Gyaman people of Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. Back then, they featured as prints on cloth which royals wore to important ceremonies. But they have transcended these Ghanaian and Ivorian origins. They now grace logos, clothing, furniture, architecture, and more. These new usages embody a global recognition of their profound cultural significance.
Stan Kolev took us straight into culture with this track.
