  The Discourse
Last week we checked out the Toolroom label thanks to Allison Wood's awesome selections of tech house so now we'll shift and take a peek at one of Toolroom's prized posessions: Adrian Hour.
When it comes to techno music in South America there is only one artist who leads: his name is Adrian Hour, he who goes by the real name of Adrian Agüero and comes directly from Buenos Aires. His origins are a long story, but already at the age of 13 Adrian knew he wanted to create and experience electronic music. From a small town outside the city in Argentina, Adrian tells us that it was fairly difficult to get music back then. The Internet was almost impossible to have, and when you did have it, it was dial up.
  Influences
His only influence was one radio station in Argentina, for which he did eventually work. After that, he started to really search for music - it was something new for him as his father showed him a lot of vinyls from the 80s. He recounts that he listened to a lot of Eurasia and Pet Shop Boys which he was too young to appreciate. At 13, he started playing records as a hobby of course and went to school at the same time. He did the same the next 13 years until he was about 22 or 23. Then he started to produce and make his own music and that is generally how it all began. Adrian's influences come from a wide array of acts like The Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, all of them for marking something strong for him with an amazing and psychedelic sensation. Psytrance was another big influence, where the energy and feelings really resonated with him.
  Current Efforts
Adrian's most recent involvement in Toolroom which started with the advent of the label's #RESET initiative, involves a lot of house and tech house work which is where he really shines.
Mark Knight called out the intent of #RESET to refocus the talent and cherry pick artists that would make Toolroom truly shine. Among those, Argentinian Tech talent, Adrian Hour, which he applauds as having the ability to make unique and unforgettable main room Techno and being truly an artist that stands head and shoulders above the rest.
Whatever they all say it's very clear that Adrian does it all for the music.
Creating music is like opening a window into my subconscious and letting the imagination travel.
I have found new sources of inspiration in my recent travels: the diversity of cultures I have discovered across Europe has pushed my
creativity to new dimensions and visuals.
  Sound & Style
We took a listen to few of his tracks which we think really epitomize his sound. 'Love Something' the remake of Dee Edwards' 1971 original, 'Why Can't There Be Love' and 'That's It' is a perfect example of his passion for a sound carrying spliced and looped vocals that are repetitive but so well placed that they truly compliment the rhythm. Adrian is well know for his thick drums that are laced with that slight reverb and distinctive of the techno beat in any industrial club. He decorates is drum lines with all kinds of creative subtleties with shakers, hi-hats and unobtrusive snares. He's a master at adding just the right amount of arpeggios to give his tracks that crunchy, raw sound but which he often off-sets with varying synth melodies, sylenth sounds and dreamy plucked sequences to give a sense of bliss and surrealism on what would otherwise be a truly dark, deep and repetitive track.
