Fish Go Deep (2) 398 views 0 favorites Greg Dowling and Shane Johnson have been playing records in public since the late 1980s. Their residency at Ireland's longest running and best known house club, Sweat at Sir Henry's in Cork, spanned more than a decade and influenced a generation of Irish clubbers and deejays. Over the 1990s Sweat built up a huge international reputation, being variously described as "a gorgeous blend of underground house" (i-D), a "deep house frenzy" (The Face) and "the best music on that side of the Irish Sea" (DJ Magazine). The night was one of Muzik magazine's ten best of 1998/99 and was named best regional club on three occasions at the Smirnoff Dance Club Awards. Some of the many guest DJs Greg and Shane hosted at Sweat over the years include Joe Claussell, DJ Deep, Rasoul, Miquel Migs, Laurent Garnier, Herbert, Derrick Carter, Glenn Underground, Boo Williams, Jovonn, Erik Rug, Harri and Kerri Chandler. Since finishing Sweat in November 2001, Fish Go Deep's travels have taken them to clubs across Ireland, Britain and Europe and throughout the US and Canada. Although Greg and Shane have recently settled back into a monthly Go Deep residency in their hometown, they still guest regularly overseas. The duo's CV also includes a six-year stint on Cork's Radio Friendly, where their Saturday night show was one of the most popular on the station. Since early 2004, they have hosted the Go Deep show on Red FM and have also contributed numerous mixes to Ireland's national music station, 2fm, Dublin's Spin FM, Nova (Paris), FMR (Toulouse) and PlantSoul (Toronto). Greg and Shane's production work under the Fish Go Deep name has been enthusiastically received in recent years, earning praise from deejays, dancers and journalists around the globe. New Jersey's seminal i! Records have released five Fish Go Deep EPs since September 2000. Other productions have appeared on French label Brique Rouge ("superb deep house" xlr8r magazine), Chicago's Gourmet ("quality club grooves" DJ Magazine), New York's Chez Music ("sumptuous" Blues&Soul) and England's Inspirit Music. In recent years Fish Go Deep tracks have appeared on more than two dozen compilations, on labels in the US, Canada, Britain, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Ireland and South Africa. In May 2005 Greg and Shane launched their own imprint, Ork Recordings with fellow Corkman, Mark O'Sullivan.
