Modest Mouse (3) 509 views 0 favorites Modest Mouse is an American indie rock band who were formed in 1993 in Issaquah, Washington, by singer/lyricist/guitarist Isaac Brock, drummer Jeremiah Green, and bassist Eric Judy. Since their 1996 debut album, This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About, their lineup has centered around Brock, Green and Judy. Guitarist Johnny Marr (formerly of The Smiths) joined the band in May 2006, along with percussionist Joe Plummer (formerly of the Black Heart Procession) and multi-instrumentalist Tom Peloso, to work on the album We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. Guitarist Jim Fairchild joined the band in February 2009. Their name is derived from a passage from the Virginia Woolf story "The Mark on the Wall" which reads, "I wish I could hit upon a pleasant track of thought, a track indirectly reflecting credit upon myself, for those are the pleasantest thoughts, and very frequent even in the minds of modest, mouse-coloured people, who believe genuinely that they dislike to hear their own praises."
Modjo (1) 229 views 0 favorites Modjo was a French house/pop musical duo made up of producer Romain Tranchart and vocalist Yann Destagnol (aka Yann Destal). It had major success with its hit single "Lady (Hear Me Tonight)".
Romain Tranchart (born on June 9, 1976, in Paris) first moved with his family to Mexico and Algeria, to finally live in Brazil. This is where he started learning the guitar, finding inspiration through jazz classics.
At that time, he became a fan of house music, influenced by DJ Sneak, Ian Pooley, and Daft Punk. He released his first house single as Funk Legacy titled "What You're Gonna Do, Baby" on Vertigo Records in 1998. Later, he decided to enter the American School of Modern Music in Paris, the French division of the Berklee School of Music.
Also Parisian, Yann learned to play flute and clarinet when he was a small child. As he aged he became deeply influenced by The Beatles, The Beach Boys, David Bowie and other pop acts. He started to play drums by emulating them. He also learned to play the piano and the guitar. He later bought himself a four track recording machine and started songwriting and singing. Fascinated more by voices than by charismatic band leaders, he liked bands such as Aerosmith, The Police and Queen and lately became a great fan of R&B divas.
After being a drummer and sometimes-vocalist in a few bands, he met Romain in 1998, and the partnership was born. The two quickly began recording, and from those sessions came "Lady (Hear Me Tonight)". The single got recognition later on in 2000. It's a "French-flavour" house track with heavy pop and disco influences, which featured a sample from Chic's "Soup For One". The track became an instant number-one across Europe, and was followed up by other singles Chillin', What I Mean and No More Tears. The "live" setup of the band was named Modjo Band.
After "No More Tears", they started their respective solo careers, with Romain Tranchart remixing songs from various artist like Res ("Golden Boys"), Shaggy ("Sexy Lady"), Mylène Farmer ("California") and post producing the likes of Everynote's "Once Upon a Time." Yann Destal's released a very Queen-esque album, titled The Great Blue Scar, reaching some success in France.

Mohombi (1) 236 views 0 favorites Mohombi Nzasi Moupondo (born 28 August 1986 in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo), known professionally as Mohombi, is a Swedish-Congolese R&B singer-songwriter and dancer. Mohombi is RedOne's first signing to 2101 Records in joint venture with Universal Music Group. From 2004 to 2008 Mohombi was part of the Swedish hip hop group Avalon with his brother Djo Moupondo. Mohombi released his debut solo single "Bumpy Ride" in August 2010. The single became a top-ten hit in many European countries, and was followed his debut studio album, MoveMeant in February 2011.
Mohombi was born to a Swedish mother and Congolese father. Raised as a child in the Congo, Mohombi and his family escaped the war-torn country for Stockholm, Sweden in 1999 when Mohombi was 12. His parents regularly exposed him to varied musical influences from early on in his childhood so that Mohombi soon developed his passion for song. Mohombi studied at Rytmus Music High School in Stockholm and made his stage debut at seventeen in the Swedish revival production of the cult show Wild Side Story. He pursued his studies and obtained his bachelor's degree in music and song from Stockholm’s Music Conservatory. He speaks Swedish, French, English and Lingala.
In Stockholm Mohombi and his brother Djo Moupondo, a local club DJ known as DJ Djo formed the group Avalon combining the dancehall and hip hop of the time with the distinctive African beats on which they were raised. From 2004 to 2008 the group sold over half a million records and won the All African Kora Awards, an African equivalent of the Grammy for the category Best Group - Diaspora Europe/Caribbean category, while Mohombi became a prolific songwriter in his own right. At this point music was only a part-time job, and looking for something more Mohombi headed to L.A. for a solo career.
Mohombi collaborated with Swedish rapper Lazee on "Do It", which was released in Sweden on 31 May 2010. It debuted at number nine on the Swedish Singles Chart. In Los Angeles Mohombi was introduced through friends to producer RedOne, whose own background is Swedish-Morrocan. The singer's debut single, "Bumpy Ride" is the first release on RedOne's label 2101 Records, a joint venture with Universal. It was released in the United States on 24 August 2010. Mohombi released "Miss Me" as his debut single in the United Kingdom on 31 October 2010. It features American rapper Nelly.
His third single called "Dirty Situation" was released in Europe on 11 November and features R&B singer Akon. "Dirty Situation" is played at the beginning and then again later on in the middle of the music video for "Miss Me". Mohombi's debut album, MoveMeant was released in Europe Monday 28th February 2011 and is scheduled to be released in the US by the end of 2011.

Moloko (1) 249 views 0 favorites Moloko (pron.: /məˈloʊkoʊ/) were an Anglo-Irish electronic/trip-hop duo from Sheffield, England consisting of Róisín Murphy from Wicklow, Ireland and Mark Brydon, from Sunderland, England. The band's name originates from the Nadsat slang in the novel A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess, in which it means "milk" (from the Russian word for milk, молоко), actually the name of a milk drink that Alex and his "droogs" consume mixed with "drencrom".
Murphy, born in Arklow, Ireland, had no prior professional experience as a singer when Moloko was formed. Brydon, on the other hand, already had an extensive curriculum vitae within the dance music community as a remixer and member of Chakk, Krush and Cloud 9. They met at a party in Sheffield, England, when Murphy approached Brydon using the chat-up line, "Do you like my tight sweater? See how it fits my body!" This line would later become the title of their debut album, recorded while the pair were dating.
The first two albums Do You Like My Tight Sweater? and I Am Not a Doctor gained notice in the underground dance scene. The band broke into the mainstream when "Sing It Back", an album track from I Am Not A Doctor, was remixed by house music producer Boris Dlugosch. The track was a massive hit in Ibiza, and this remixed version broke into the top-five in both the Irish Singles Charts, and the UK singles chart in 1999, and also, helped by a psychedelic video featuring Murphy in a very short metallic "flapper" dress and cap. "Sing It Back" has featured on over 100 music compilations.
In January and February 1999, Moloko supported Garbage on their Version 2.0 tour. This was not a successful liaison, with the Garbage crowd particularly unwelcoming at the Wembley Arena date.
In 2000 Moloko started touring as a full band along with percussionist Paul Slowley, keyboardist Eddie Stevens, and guitarist Dave Cooke.
The band also had chart success with "The Time Is Now", the first single from the third album, Things to Make and Do. This album had relied less on the left field beats of the previous albums, and featured more organic instrumentation as well as musically more multifaceted arrangements by Eddie Stevens.
Murphy and Brydon ended their relationship in 2001. After their breakup, they recorded and released their fourth studio album, Statues. Statues continued a segue into more traditional instrumentation, along with electronica elements from their earlier releases. Statues incorporated the theme of the couple's split: all of the songs deal with a troubled and/or ending romance.
In 2004 Moloko released a live DVD, 11,000 Clicks, recorded on stage at the Brixton Academy, England. It contained many of their well known songs including "Indigo", "Sing It Back", and "The Time Is Now".
After concluding the tour supporting Statues, Moloko mutually parted ways, with Murphy launching a solo career. However, in 2006 Murphy and Brydon, along with long-time Moloko guitarist Cooke, played a select number of acoustic radio performances to promote the Moloko best of album Catalogue. While both currently pursue projects outside of Moloko and state that there are no plans for Moloko at the moment, Murphy has been keen to stress that the group are not necessarily defunct and that she has no interest in "burying" the project.
Róisín Murphy completed work on her second solo album Overpowered in 2007, released in October of the same year, while Mark Brydon is working on a number of smaller projects in his own studio.
Monta (1) 37 views 0 favorites Monta is the one-man project of Tobias Kuhn, formerly singer of Miles. Monta makes up the centre of his work - the bottom line of his musical labour. Monta can be tender as a whistle or roaring like thunder, from homey living rooms to a stage somewhere on the globe.
After the EP "Always Altamont", the highly acclaimed first longplayer "Where Circles Begin" had been released worldwide and made it to album of the week of the Sunday Times (UK) and the single "I'm Sorry" can still be heard as theme song of the japanese counterpart to CNN news. Now there's a new single "Good Morning Stranger" and a new album - "The Brilliant Masses"!
Brilliant indeed: a collection of eleven songs who ask for careful listening and instantaneously stare into your eyes. In a language often enciphered and metaphorical yet clearly coherent and radiant as a lighthouse. Songs who can alienate people and at the same time spend warmth.
With awareness and luminosity Kuhn sums up the things and thoughts that motivate him and get him going. The song titles themselves make up the synopsis: love, estrangement, doubt, certainty, home, getting along, trust, disappointment, capitulation, achievement, loneliness, bliss and the never-ending search. Over and over and over again. Again and again packed in those awesome melodies which let the world shine in a different light for a moment or a little longer.
Monta has grown up and become a dad, also he's been around on tour for quite a bit and got lots of positive feedback and made lots of friends on the many shows he's played thus far - whether solo or with a continually changing number of great musicians. Monta got high rankings in lots of reader and listener charts yet in between there's always the often deflating and painful 'homecoming' process - having to face the things one's neglected, that still have to get done, with yourself and with the 'Brilliant Masses'.
Which results in a nearly brutally authentic piece, recording here and there in between Klagenfurt / Austria and Munich / Germany. Sometimes all by himself, at times with longtime companions and produced by the artist himself in close cooperation with Herwig "Fuzzman" Zamernik. (Naked Lunch)
"The Brilliant Masses" is going to be released early 2007 on Monta's own label Labelmate in coop with viennese Klein Records.

Morgan Page (1) 248 views 0 favorites Vermont native Morgan Page began making electronic music at the age of 12. After gaining the attention of jockeys at local free-form radio stations, Page -- prior to graduating from high school -- began DJing himself on the University of Vermont's station. There, his horizons and knowledge about dance music broadened significantly, especially when it came to house. After taking up an internship at the Plastic City label, Page initiated a steady release schedule that saw a handful of 12" singles scattered each year from 2000 through 2006. In addition to appearing on labels like Nordic Trax, Fiji, Bedrock, Saw, LowDown, and Force Tracks, Page remixed singles for Terry Lee Brown, Jr., Ashlee Simpson, and Men, Women & Children. Nettwek Records took note and signed Page for the release of 2008's Elevate, a collection of remixes and original songs. In 2010, he released his third studio effort, Believe. In the Air followed in 2012.
